FAQ’S

Q: How do I know whether to choose coaching or EMDR?

A: EMDR therapy is a powerful deep, healing modality where we will access memories and old trauma to facilitate re-processing and change. EMDR changes the neural pathways in our brain so we can shift from “I’m not good enough,” to “I’m good enough,” and REALLY feel and believe it. We can clear out that old stuff so that you can actually feel good and like you! EMDR thearpy is an experiential process focused on deep, inner healing and treatment of mental health disorders. Confidence coaching is for those who are motivated and easily take action-you just need a little push to figure out the what and how! Coaching sessions have you more actively involved in the thinking and change process. Please note that coaching is not appropriate for those with severe mental health distress. You can have a therapist for mental health counseling and a coach for solution-focused approach with action steps.

Q: How will we meet?

A: I use a HIPAA compliant platform for both EMDR therapy and coaching calls. You have the option to meet virtually or I have an in-person office in Montclair, NJ.

Q: How can EMDR be done virtually?

A: It can and it works great! The bilateral stimulation used in EMDR is done through self-tapping your body, listening to music or via an online program that elicits eye movements. EMDR has proven successful both in person or virtually. Please note that during the screening process I will figure out if you are suitable for EMDR at this time.

Q: Wait, I have to be suitable for EMDR?

A: Yes. EMDR is an 8-phase treatment model. As we engage in treatment, we must be able to remain present while we dive into the past. Those with active difficulties with stability and emotional regulation would not be appropriate for EMDR treatment at this time.

Q: Can I see you for both coaching and EMDR?

A: Unfortunately, no. The ethical considerations of my therapist license prohibit dual relationships. I wear one hat as a coach and another hat as a therapist. Working with me under both hats can cloud your perspective and provide a disservice.

Q: How long am I seeing you?

A: For coaching, I offer drop in 1 on 1 sessions. Services range from just seeing me once to purchasing a few sessions that range from 1-3 months of services. For EMDR therapy, there is no time frame. Depending on your history and current symptoms, I have seen some clients for EMDR for a few months up to 3 years.

Q: Do you offer other therapy besides EMDR?

A: Yes and no. Those who come see me specifically want EMDR therapy. It is a structured treatment with limited talking during re-processing (which is about 75% of the session). Debriefing, talking and other clinical interventions are weaved into the treatment, however, not the main modality. Some clients have both an EMDR therapist and talk therapist.
